Trailblazer Awards for 07-08 Theatre Season

Tim Perrino

West Side Theatre Impresario
Tim Perrino started building audiences of Cincinnatiís West Side 27 years ago, when he founded Cincinnati Young Peopleís Theatre in 1982. There were 17 kids that first summer; since then, about 2000 teens from all over the region have participated in CYPT productions, some of them the kids of those first high school performers. In 2001, CYPT purchased the old Covedale Theater, a 55-year-old neighborhood movie house on Glenway Avenue that had fallen on hard times. It was brought back to life in summer 2002 and now, like its logo, itís a beacon.

Between CYPT, the Covedale Center for the Performing Arts, and the Showboat Majestic, Tim filled more than 48,000 theatre seats last season. Covedale Center had just under 3000 subscribers this year, which makes it the second biggest local theatre subscription after Playhouse in the Park. Showboat, which celebrates 85 years on the river this summer, has 1800+ subscribers, tying with Ensemble Theatre for third. So, for blazing a trail for thousands of Cincinnatians to become loyal theatergoers, Tim Perrino is our 2008 Trailblazer.
