Grants to Individual Theater Professionals
(previously known as Theater Artist’s Project Fund Grants)
In addition to celebrating excellence, Acclaim is committed to expanding opportunities for theater professionals in Greater Cincinnati. Your individual Acclaim award is your invitation to apply for support in developing a new project or improving your professional skills. This grant is for you and may not be assigned to others.
The Acclaim Grants to Individuals support:
- The creation or enhancement of staged work
- Educational opportunities for professional growth (workshops, seminars, intensives, etc.)
- Equipment relevant to your profession
The maximum grant amount is $1,000. You may apply for any amount up to the maximum. The jury panel may choose to award lesser amounts.
There are no deadlines. We accept applications throughout the year. To facilitate this “rolling” review, we can only accept electronic applications.
GUIDELINES
- You must have received an Acclaim Award for your individual contribution to a staged work or have received individual Acclaim for a body of work.
- If you have received Acclaim as part of an “ensemble”, the entire ensemble may apply for a single grant, whereas a single member of the ensemble may not.
- There is no “statute of limitations”. Your invitation to apply will not expire.
- An Individual Grant is for you and the proposal you submit.
- This grant is for support of your work. You must be the primary artistic participant and credited as such in all promotion of any larger production, should there be one.
- A change in the nature of the project invalidates the award. You should not assume that the grant applies to your new project. Please discuss your plans with Acclaim if you think of revising them.
- If your project reaches production, you must debut it in the Greater Cincinnati area.
- If you are applying for an educational opportunity, you may use the grant outside the region.
GRANT COMPLIANCE
- Once you receive a grant, you will have 18 months to complete your project.
- At the end of 18 months, you must file a brief report on your project’s outcome.
- You must credit Acclaim for the award in all publicity materials including but not limited to program. Grant notification letters include suggestions for specific wording.
AWARD PAYOUT
When you receive notification of an award, we will release the money to you.
FAQs
The single most frequently asked question about this grant is: What is it for, really? We readily admit that we have left it open ended. Here are a few proposals we would consider mixed in with a few that we have funded:

- Development of your new script
- Dance research for choreographic staging of new play
- Sewing machine repair for a costumer
- Rental car and motel for design team to research locale of new script
We hope the Acclaim Grants encourage you to embark on an idea that excites you and ultimately our growing theater audience.
